16. A Fox and A Woodcutter

A Fox and A Woodcutter

There was a forest near a small village. A fox lived in that forest alone. He had a hole of his own in the corner of the forest. He used to go out and preyed on animals. He takes its meal to his hole and eats there. In the hole he used to take rest, sleep and keep food. In this way, he was going to spend his life.

One day he went out from his hole searching for food. Some preyers saw him. They were chasing the fox and wanted to kill him. The fox began to run to save its life. On the way, the fox showed a woodcutter. He requested the woodcutter "will you provide me a place where I could take shelter?" The woodcutter showed him his hut and advised him to hide there. The fox did so.

After a while, the preyers came there. They asked the woodcutter " Did you see any fox here?" He replied that he did not see any fox here but he showed the place where the fox was hiding. The preyers did not notice the signal. Finding no fox there they went away.

After some time, the fox got out of the hut. Saying nothing the fox started walking. The woodcutter realized that the fox saw everything that the woodcutter had done. The woodcutter remained silent like a wrong-doer.
